Part of the Reykjavik Staunton Chess Series, this set is alternatively known as the Bobby Fischer, Jacob Knight, or Jacques Staunton Series, depending on the chess store. The term “Reykjavik series” pays homage to the famous 1972 chess tournament held in Iceland, where chess masters Bobby Fischer and Boris Spassky competed, with Fischer emerging victorious in a historic final. Recognized as one of the best matches in chess history, these chess pieces are also associated with the Jacques Staunton name, initially introduced by Jacques of London. Reproduced to preserve the classic design, these Sheesham Staunton chess pieces are meticulously crafted by highly skilled artisans in Amritsar, India. Carved from solid blocks of wood, each piece is heavily weighted, ensuring a comfortable and stable chess-playing experience. Furthermore, a layer of soft green felt on each piece provides protection to your chess board, combining functionality with timeless design.
